After a lone season with the Hawks, Dean joined the Edmonton Oilers for a 6-year stint before being dealt back to Chicago at the deadline in 1998-99. After parts of 3 more years with the Hawks, McAmmond played briefly for the Flyers, Flames, Avalanche, Blues, Islanders, Senators and Devils before announcing his retirement after 18 NHL seasons and nearly 1000 games.
