2001-02 Marian Hossa Ottawa Senators Game Worn Jersey - Photo Match Team Letter
Lot #143

This home white knit gamer by CCM was worn by Marian Hosssa during the 2001-02 NHL season. The Ottawa Senators selected Hossa in the 1st round of the 1997 NHL entry draft. Hossa began his career in Ottawa with a 7-game stint in 1997-98 and remained there for 7 years. Three seasons followed in Atlanta and then a deadline deal sent him to Pittsburgh where he played briefly in 2007-08, making a run to the Stanley Cup Finals. After the 2007-08 season, Hossa signed a one year free agent contract with the Detroit Red Wings.  Marian had a good season with the Wings, leading the team in goals with 40 and averaging almost a point per game. Interestingly, Marian wound up in the finals again, facing off against his former team from the year before, the Penguins. After a hard fought 7-game series, Marian again came out on the losing side as the Red Wings were defeated 2-1 in the seventh game.

The 2008-09 off-season saw Marian sign a long-term contract with the Chicago Blackhawks. On May 23, 2010, the Blackhawks beat the San Jose Sharks to earn a trip to the 2010 Stanley Cup Finals. Marian became the first player in NHL history to play in three consecutive finals with 3 different teams. On June 9, 2010, Marian celebrated with his teammates as he finally won his first Stanley Cup, as the Blackhawks defeated the Flyers to win their first championship in 49 years. Blackhawks Captain Jonathan Toews handed the Cup to Hossa first during the team pass-around. The 2012-13 season saw Marian win his 2nd Stanley Cup as the Blackhawks beat the Boston Bruins 4-2 in the Stanley Cup Finals.
Hossa won his 3rd Stanley Cup as the Hawks took their 3rd in a 5-season span in 2015.

Hossa is now a member of the vaunted 500-Goal club after scoring his first goal of the 2016-17 season. Marian amassed 525 goals and 1134 points during his phenomenal career. Hossa played in 5 NHL All Star games, earned a 2nd team NHL All Star in 2009 and a 1st Team NHL All-Rookie Team in 1999 when he was runner up for the Calder Trophy. This 3-time Stanley Cup Champion was an international mainstay, having played in numerous World Championships, 4 Olympics and a pair of World Cups and he will undoubtedly earn his rightful place in the Hockey Hall of Fame upon eligibility.

The game wear on this 1st set size 56 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, trauma, material pulls, heavy inner pilling and in excess of a dozen team-sewn repairs. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Hossa wearing this exact jersey during the 2001-02 season. According to the Senators, these 1st set jerseys were worn beginning in October 2001 and all the way through late March 2002. Worn by Hossa for virtually the entire regular season, this outstanding early career photo matched example would be a great choice to represent this soon to be Hall of Famer in your game worn collection, choice! This jersey will be accompanied by a Senators team letter.
