2001-02 Marek Malek Carolina Hurricanes Stanley Cup Finals Game Worn Jersey Photo Match
Lot #92
This home white air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Marek Malik during the 2001-02 NHL season, playoffs and Stanley Cup Finals. The Hartford Whalers selected Malik in the 3rd round of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft. This Czech native made his NHL debut in 1994-95 with the Whalers where he played for three seasons before resuming his career with the club in Carolina after the move south. Marek spent parts of five seasons with the Hurricanes and trekked to the 2002 Stanley Cup Finals with the team before moving on to play for the Canucks, Rangers and Lightning before finishing up his career in Europe. All told, this towering defenseman played 691 games over 13 seasons in the NHL.

Sewn to the right breast of this gamer is the 2002 Stanley Cup Finals patch. The game wear on this 2nd set size 58 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes and trauma, washed out bloodstains, fine inner pilling and a couple of handfuls of team-sewn repairs. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Malek wearing this exact jersey during the 2001-02 Stanley Cup Finals. On the back player number is a beautiful black sharpie signature in Malek’s own hand. On the inside hem is the official Carolina Hurricanes game worn jersey and set information. Carolina Hurricanes Stanley Cup Finals gamers have been a rather difficult get through the years with this example being just the second from the Canes first trip in 2002 that we’ve had the pleasure to bring to auction. A well-worn photo matched example, complete with the coveted Stanley Cup Finals patch from Carolina’s first-ever trip to the big show.
