Lot #91

This home white air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Brian Leetch during the 2001-02 NHL season. The New York Rangers selected Leetch in the 1st round of the 1986 NHL Entry Draft. This Corpus Christi, TX native played his college hockey for Boston College and spent time with the U.S. National Team before making his NHL debut in 1987-88 with the Rangers. Leetch spent the first 17 seasons of his 18-year NHL career with the Rangers before wrapping things up with the Maple Leafs and Bruins.

During his illustrious career, Leetch became one of the greatest defenseman of the modern era, winning a pair of Norris Trophies as the NHL’s best defenseman, the Calder Trophy as NHL Rookie of the Year and most importantly the 1994 Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. It was in 1994 that Leetch and the Rangers broke one of hockey’s longest droughts with their Stanley Cup Championship that spring. Brian is one of only five defenseman in NHL history to record a 100-point season. Also to his credit is an impressive five 20-goal seasons. Leetch was a 9-time NHL All Star who earned five 1st or 2nd Team NHL All Star selections. Internationally, Leetch represented Team USA in numerous World Championships, the 1991 Canada Cup, the 1996 World Cup of Hockey and the 1988, 1998 and 2002 Olympics. The New York Rangers paid tribute to Leetch by retiring his player #2 to the rafters in 2008. During the ceremony, Rangers legend Mark Messier referred to Leetch as the “Greatest Ranger of all-time”. The following year, Leetch was inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.

Proudly sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the Captain’s “C”. Sewn to the left shoulder is the 9-11 ribbon patch. The game wear on this 1st set size 56 sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, un-repaired trauma to the rear hem and inner pilling. Sewn to the inside hem is the official NHL game worn jersey and set tagging. Sewn alongside is the official New York Rangers game worn jersey and set tagging. Leetch wore the Captain’s “C” during Mark Messier’s absence in 2001-02 and played in his final NHL All Star Game that same year. A terrific 9-11 patched example that sports the coveted letter of honor and was worn by this Hall of Fame great, choice! This jersey will be accompanied by a Rangers team letter.
