Since the NHL began requiring Stanley Cup Finals patches on their game jerseys in 1989, there have been a few notable sets that have eluded collectors. The 2000 Stanley Cup Finals patched New Jersey Devils are one of those sets. These gamers were not part of any official program and most were taken home by the players themselves. Because of this, these gamers are on virtually every Stanley Cup collectors want list.
It was explained to us that the Devils only ordered 2 primary sets of jerseys and a few extras for use during the entire 1999-00 season. The 1st set saw the bulk of regular season action before the set 2 gamers took over and carried the team to the Stanley Cup. This home white air-knit gamer by Pro Player was worn by Brian Rafalski during the 1999-00 NHL season and playoffs. Rafalski’s rookie season was capped off with a Stanley Cup Championship, which is the ultimate way to begin one’s career. After a 75 game regular season, Brian partook in all 23 playoff games during the Devils year 2000 Stanley Cup run.
Sewn to the right breast of this gamer is the 2000 Stanley Cup Finals patch. Sewn just above this is the year 2000 NHL patch. On the inside hem is the official New Jersey Devils set-2 team stamp. The game wear is solid consisting of stick marks, many board burns, paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes and several team-sewn repairs. We were told that this jersey was in fact one of two which were alternated through the playoffs and Stanley Cup Finals. Take advantage of this opportunity to acquire a truly rare piece of New Jersey Devils history.
