2000-02 Steve Konowalchuk Washington Capitals Game Worn Jersey – “9-11” - Photo Match
Lot #160

This home white air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Steve Konowalchuk during the 2000-01 NHL regular season in addition to the 2001-02 NHL pre-season. The Washington Capitals selected Konowalchuk in the 3rd round of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. This Salt Lake City, UT native made his NHL debut in 1991-92 with the Capitals where he spent parts of 13 seasons before wrapping up his 14-year NHL career with the Colorado Avalanche. Konowalchuk represented the United States in several World Championships as well as the 1996 and 2004 World Cups of Hockey. Following his playing days, Konowalchuk coached the Seattle Thunderbirds to a Championship and has worked behind the bench for the Colorado Avalanche and Anaheim Ducks.

Sewn to the right breast of this gamer is the 9-11 patch. The game wear on this 2nd set size 58 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer and inner pilling. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Konowalchuk wearing this exact jersey during the 2000-01 season. On the back player number is an autograph in Konowalchuk’s own hand. Steve wore this sweater as he tallied a career best 24 goals during the 2000-01 season. This jersey was then recycled by the Capitals and worn again by Konowalchuk during the 2001-02 pre-season with the 9-11 patch added following the national tragedy. A nice 9-11 patched and photo matched offering from this veteran who spent 13 seasons in Washington.
