Lot #76
This home white air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Steve Yzerman during the 2000-01 NHL season, including on the night that he joined the exclusive 1600 point club. The Detroit Red Wings selected Yzerman with the 4th overall pick in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. Yzerman is widely regarded as one of the greatest Captain’s in NHL history as well as one of hockey’s all-time great players. His tremendous grit and ability led the Red Wings to 3 Stanley Cup Championships during his illustrious career.

In a career that spanned 22 seasons, all while wearing the “Winged Wheel”, Yzerman put up tremendous career numbers, scoring 692 goals, 1063 assists and 1755 points. These totals place him in the top 10 all-time in all 3 categories. His playoff statistics are equally as impressive. Steve scored 70 playoff goals, 115 playoff assists and 185 playoff points. Each of these numbers ranks him in the top 15 all-time. In addition to his 3 Stanley Cups, Steve has also won a Lester B. Pearson trophy as the NHL’s outstanding player, a Conn Smythe trophy as playoff MVP, a Frank J. Selke trophy as the leagues best defensive forward, a Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy and a Lester B. Patrick Trophy. Yzerman netted 50 goals five different times during his career. In fact he had a span of six consecutive seasons beginning in 1987-88, where he scored 50, 65, 62, 51, 45 and 58 goals; quite impressive! The 1988-89 season saw Yzerman set career highs with 65 goals, 90 assists and 155 points, an epic year indeed. ‘Stevie Y’ played in 10 NHL All Star games and represented Team Canada in the 1984 Canada Cup, the 1996 World Cup of Hockey and the 1998 and 2002 Olympics. In the years to come this legendary Hall of Famer will be fondly remembered by us as one of the best and classiest we’ve ever seen take to the ice.

Proudly sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the Captain’s “C”. This gamer has been custom shortened by the team in the hem to meet Yzerman’s specs. The game wear on this 3rd set size 50 sweater is solid and consists of numerous stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, a well-salted fight strap, washed out bloodstains, inner pilling and 10 team-sewn repairs. Shown above is a terrific video match of Yzerman notching career point number 1600 while wearing this exact jersey on home ice, Feb 23rd 2001 against the St. Louis Blues. Also shown above are some beautiful photo matches of Yzerman wearing this exact jersey during the aforementioned 1600 point game. Affixed to the inner hem is the Detroit Red Wings official game worn jersey and set tagging. To this date, only 9 men have reached the exclusive 1600-point plateau in the history of the NHL. Based on a review of up to date all-time points charts, it is safe to assume that it will be many years before another player enters the exclusive 1600-point club. This historic well-worn offering is both photo and video matched to Yzerman’s 1600th career point and represents a fantastic opportunity to acquire this important modern era example, choice!
