2000-01 Joey Hope Portland Winter Hawks Game Worn Jersey - 2001 Memorial Cup
Lot #238

This red knit gamer by Nike was worn by Joey Hope during the 2000-01 WHL season. This Anchorage, AK native played for the U.S. Junior National Team before joining the WHL in 2000-01. Hope spent 3 seasons in the WHL and spent all but 13 of those games with the Portland Winter Hawks. In 2003, Hope joined the Philadelphia Flyers organization and spent most of the next 3 seasons with the AHL’s Philadelphia Phantoms. Joey also briefly represented the Trenton Titans upon turning pro and then completed his career in the ECHL back home in Alaska where he played a couple of seasons for the Aces.

Sewn to the right breast of this gamer is the 2001 Regina-Saskatchewan Memorial Cup patch. The game wear on this size 58 sweater is tremendous and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, fight abuse, trauma, fine inner pilling and a couple of handfuls of team-sewn repairs. After finishing in 2nd place in the West, Portland made a deep playoff run, eventually succumbing to Red Deer in the WHL Championship. A battered gamer sporting the Memorial Cup patch and hailing from Hope’s first season of junior hockey.
