2000-01 Joe Thornton Boston Bruins Game Worn Jersey – Alternate – Career High 37-Goal Season
Lot #94

This gold Bear Head alternate air-knit gamer by Koho was worn by Joe Thornton during the 2000-01 NHL season. The Boston Bruins selected Thornton with the 1st overall pick in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. Thornton made his NHL debut in 1997-98 at the age of 18 with Boston where he skated for 8 seasons. It was during Joe’s 8th year in the league that he was traded to San Jose. Joe was off to a quick start that year with the Bruins, a trend that accelerated after arriving in the Shark Tank. Thornton assisted on 92 goals and scored 114 points that season, both career best totals that were good enough to capture the Hart Trophy as the NHL’s MVP as well as the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL’s leading scorer. This was the first time that such honors were awarded to a player that played for two different teams in a season. Thornton spent parts of 15 years with San Jose and then played his 23rd NHL season as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs. In an amazing career that has spanned more than 1600 games, Thornton has amassed nearly 1100 assists and better than 1500 points. Thornton is currently the NHL’s 14th highest scorer of all-time, while also ranking 7th on the all-time assists list. Thornton is a four-time 1st or 2nd Team NHL All Star and has played in 6 NHL All Star Games. On the international stage, Thornton has represented Team Canada in the World Championships, two World Cups of Hockey and two Olympics.

Proudly sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the alternate Captain’s “A”. The game wear on this size 58 sweater is solid and consists of numerous stick and slash marks, board burns, stitch pops and inner pilling. Thornton wore this sweater during his fourth NHL season and netted a career best 37 goals in the process. This tremendous example, complete with the coveted letter of honor, hails from a career best goal-scoring season from the very early part of this future Hall of Famer’s NHL career.
