1999-00 Martin Brodeur Devils Game Worn Jersey - 2000 Stanley Cup Finals Patch
Lot #63

Since the NHL began requiring Stanley Cup Finals patches on their game jerseys in 1989, there have been a few notable sets that have eluded collectors. The 2000 Stanley Cup Finals patched New Jersey Devils are one of those sets. These gamers were not part of any official program and most were taken home by the players themselves. Because of this, these gamers are on virtually every Stanley Cup collectors want list.

It was explained to us that the Devils only ordered 2 primary sets of jerseys and a few extras for use during the entire 1999-00 season. The 1st set saw the bulk of regular season action before the set 2 gamers took over and carried the team to the Stanley Cup.  This home white air-knit gamer by Pro Player was worn by Martin Brodeur during the 1999-00 NHL season.

Brodeur offers the only legitimate threat to Roy’s all-time mark which now appears within reach. He continues to build upon his record of consecutive 30-Win seasons, which presently stands at 10. Martin is also the first goalie in NHL history to record five 40+ win seasons. With 12 years under his belt, he has yet to have a season where his Goals Against Average was over a 2.70 and he has already recorded two seasons at a sub 2.00 GAA leaving him with a career GAA around 2.20. Martin and his 83 career regular season shutouts are also taking aim at the all-time record which is held by Terry Sawchuk at 103.

As impressive as his regular season success, are his staggering playoff totals; with 89 playoff wins, 21 shutouts and a 1.89 GAA, he is leaving his mark as one of the all-time greats. In his trophy case already are (3) Stanley Cups, a Calder Trophy for rookie of the year, (2) Jennings trophies for allowing the fewest goals in a season, (2) Vezina Trophies awarded to the NHL’s top goaltender and an Olympic Gold Medal. He is a perennial All Star and will undoubtedly be a Hall of Fame legend upon retirement.

Sewn to the right breast of this gamer is the 2000 Stanley Cup Finals patch. Sewn just above this is the year 2000 NHL patch. On the inside hem is the official New Jersey Devils set-1 team stamp, indicating that this jersey was worn by Martin during the 1999-00 regular season. We were told that this jersey also saw use during the historic 1999-00 playoff run. It was then prepared with a Stanley Cup Finals patch and served as a backup during the Stanley Cup Finals.

This size 60 goalie cut sweater has been custom altered to Brodeur’s specs. The game use is solid consisting of stick and puck marks, paint transfer, an un-repaired skate slice and fine pilling both inside and out in all of the proper places. Marty again posted staggering numbers during the 1999-00 season while wearing this very sweater. He won 43 regular season games which included 6 shutouts and posted a GAA of 2.24. He finished even stronger winning all 16 playoff games with 2 shutouts and an unbelievable 1.61 GAA. This historic sweater was worn during Brodeur’s 2nd Stanley Cup winning season and should be considered among the finest examples to ever come to market.
