This road red air-knit jersey by CCM was issued for use by Brendan Shanahan during the 1999-00 NHL season. The New Jersey Devils selected Shanahan with the 2nd overall pick in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft. Brendan began his career with the Devils in 1987-88 and as a rookie he helped lead the fledgling franchise to their first ever playoff appearance. He moved to St. Louis to begin the 1991-92 season and spent the next four seasons with the Blues, tabbing back-to-back 50-goal seasons in 1992-93 and 1993-94, the only two times in his career that he produced 50-Goal seasons. After a year in Hartford, Shanny joined the Red Wings where he battled for hockey supremacy over the course of 9 years and captured 3 Stanley Cup Championships. The New York Rangers and the New Jersey Devils were Shanahan’s final stops before putting the wraps on his Hall of Fame career.
This two-time 50-goal scorer retired with 656 goals and 1354 regular season points, all the while amassing 2489 PIMS! Shanny’s 656 goals place him 13th in the history of the sport. This power forward was one of his generation’s best, earning 8 All Star Game appearances and three 1st or 2nd Team NHL All Star selections. On the international stage, Shanahan represented Team Canada in the 1991 Canada Cup, the 1996 World Cup of Hockey and in the 1998 and 2002 Olympics.
Proudly sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the alternate Captain’s “A”. The body and sleeves have been custom shortened for Shanahan by the team. This 1st set size 56 sweater was used as a backup and shows no signs of game use. Affixed to the inside hem is the official Detroit Red Wings game worn jersey and set information along with the Hockeytown Hologram. Shanny earned 1st Team NHL All Star honors on the strength of his 41-goal season in 1999-00 as well as a spot in the 2000 NHL All Star Game.
