Description
1998-99 Alex Karpovtsev Maple Leafs Game Worn Jersey - "Maple Leaf Gardens Memories and Dreams" - Last Game at Maple Leaf Gardens - Photo Match
Lot #68

This home white air-knit and mesh tie-down gamer by Nike was worn by Alexander Karpovtsev during the last ever game at Maple Leaf Gardens on February 13th, 1999. Karpovtsev jumped from Moscow Dynamo to the New York Rangers for their Stanley Cup winning season in 1993-94. He remained a Ranger for 6 seasons before joining the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he played for 2 years. After Toronto it was onto Chicago for 4 seasons before a brief stay on Long Island and then a year in Florida.

Sewn to the right breast of this gamer is the beautiful Maple Leaf Gardens Memories and Dreams patch. Sewn to the inside hem is the Maple Leaf Gardens Final Game patch. The patch indicates that this was Karpovtsev's 1st period jersey from the historic final game at MLG. The game wear on this sweater is light consisting of stick marks, board burns and board paint transfer.

Worn as the Leafs squared off against the Blackhawks in the final ever game held at the grand old building. Shown above are video captures taken from the 1st period of the final game at MLG. As you can see, Karpovtsev's nameplate features a perfectly matching tilted sew job in the video captures and on this gamer. A great matched gamer from the final ever game at Maple Leaf Gardens.
