Description
1997-98 Shjon Podein Philadelphia Flyers Game Worn Jersey - Photo Match
Lot #158

This road orange air-knit gamer by Nike was worn by Shjon Podein during the 1997-98 NHL season. The Edmonton Oilers selected Podein in the 8th round of the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. This Rochester, MN native played his college hockey at the University of Minnesota-Duluth before making his NHL debut in 1992-93 with the Edmonton Oilers. Shjon spent a couple of seasons with the Oilers before joining the Philadelphia Flyers in 1994-95. After playing for parts of five seasons with the Flyers, Podein became a member of the Colorado Avalanche. Shjon spent parts of four years in Colorado and won a Stanley Cup with the team in the spring of 2001. Podein wrapped up his 11-year NHL career with a couple of seasons in St. Louis. This defensive specialist was the recipient of the 2000-01 King Clancy Memorial Trophy for his leadership qualities on the ice and his humanitarian efforts off the ice.

The game wear on this size 52 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, material pulls, stitch pops, washed out bloodstains, heavy inner pilling and a half-dozen team-sewn repairs. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Podein wearing this exact jersey during the 1997-98 season. A well-worn photo matched example donned by this 11-year NHL veteran and former UMD Bulldog.
