Description
1997-98 Pat LaFontaine New York Rangers Game Worn Jersey - Statue of Liberty - Team Letter
Lot #157

This blue alternate Statue of Liberty gamer by Starter was worn by Pat LaFonataine during the 1997-98 NHL season. The New York Islanders drafted Lafontaine with the 3rd overall selection in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. A regrettable string of unfortunate injuries struck Pat’s career in its prime and ultimately cost him what would surely have been very lofty career totals. Pat spent 8 years on Long Island before a trade sent him to Buffalo for the 1991-92 season. He spent 6 seasons with the Sabres and one final year with the New York Rangers before announcing his retirement.

Despite the injury-shortened career, he still managed seven 40-goal seasons including two of 50 or more. His 148 points in the 1992-93 campaign was one of the decade’s highest totals. When injury forced him into retirement, he took with him 468 career goals and over 1000 career points. LaFontaine was a winner of the Bill Masterton trophy for the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Pat was a staple in the NHL All Star game during the late 1980’s and early 1990’s as he blossomed into one of the sport’s biggest stars. LaFontaine was one of the classiest players of his generation and was deservingly awarded with an induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Offered here is the only Statue of Liberty gamer that Lafontaine wore during his career. Pat spent his last NHL season playing for the Rangers. In 67 games he rang up 23 goals and 62 points prior to receiving a career ending head injury. Lafontaine wore this jersey in 12 games. The game wear on this sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer and pilling both inside and around the collar. Sewn to the inside hem is the official New York Rangers game worn jersey tagging. Patty wore this jersey during his last complete NHL game against Boston on March 14th 1998. Just two nights later he suffered a career ending concussion in a game against the Ottawa Senators. A fantastic Hall of Fame offering! This jersey will be accompanied by a Rangers team letter.
