This home white air-knit gamer by Starter was worn by Mike Gartner during the 1997-98 NHL season. Gartner, who was the 4th overall selection in the 1979 NHL Entry draft, spent the first 10 years of his career with the Washington Capitals and is considered the greatest Capital to ever wear the team colors. During his 19-year NHL career Mike racked up incredible numbers while representing the Caps, North Stars, Rangers, Leafs and Coyotes. His Hall of Fame numbers are simply staggering with in excess of 700 career goals and 1300 career points to his credit. He is one of a handful of players ever to eclipse 700 career goals, standing among the likes of Wayne Gretzky, Gordie Howe, Marcel Dionne, Phil Esposito and Brett Hull. Mike was consistently good over a very long period of time, which is rather uncommon in the modern era of this grueling sport. He amassed 15 different 30-goal seasons with 8 of them being 40 or better including one 50 goal campaign. He proudly represented his team in 7 different NHL All Star contests. Mike also represented Team Canada in both of the classic Canada Cup series in 1984 and 1987. He was a true credit to the sport and is a most deserving member of Hockey’s Hall of Fame.
Offered here is Gartner’s 2nd set sweater from his 19th and final NHL season. Sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the alternate Captain’s “A”. This jersey has been heavily customized with the body and sleeves both being shortened. The game wear is solid with numerous stick and slash marks littering the body and sleeves. In addition there are board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, rusting on the fight strap snaps and heavy inner pilling which prove that Mike went out giving the same 110% he gave when he entered the league two-decades earlier. This tremendous example sports fine use and is one of the last gamers that this classy Hall of Famer ever wore, choice! This jersey will be accompanied by a Coyotes team letter.
