1997-98 Martin Lapointe Red Wings Game Worn Jersey - "Believe" - Team Letter
Lot #161

This road red air-knit gamer by Nike was worn by Martin Lapointe during the Stanley Cup winning 1997-98 NHL season. Martin was the Red Wings 1st round selection in the 1991 NHL entry draft. He would spend his first 10 NHL seasons with Detroit before moving on to Boston for 3 and more recently Chicago where he spent his last 2 seasons. Martin was a member of both the 1997 and 1998 Stanley Cup winning teams in Hockeytown.

Sewn to the right breast of this gamer is the rarely seen and highly desirable “Believe” patch. This patch was worn during the 1997-98 season to honor their teammate Vladimir Konstantinov and team masseuse Sergei Mnatsakanov following their tragic automobile accident after a Stanley Cup celebratory party in June of 1997.

This jersey has been highly customized by the Red Wings training staff in both the body and sleeves where, in addition to having been altered, Velcro has been sewn in to provide a more snug fit. The game wear is outstanding consisting of many stick marks, board burns, inner and outer pilling, un-repaired burn holes and by our count 15 team-sewn repairs. This a great patched example worn during the 2nd of back to back Stanley Cup winning seasons. This jersey will be accompanied by a Red Wings team letter.
