Description
1997-98 Geoff Courtnall St. Louis Blues Game Worn Jersey
Lot #99
This road blue air-knit gamer by Starter was worn by Geoff Courtnall during the 1997-98 NHL season. Courtnall began his NHL career with the Boston Bruins in 1983-84 and spent his first 5 seasons playing in Beantown. A trade at the deadline in 1988 would prove fruitful for Geoff as his new team, the Edmonton Oilers, defeated his former team in the Stanley Cup Finals that spring. It would prove to be the only Stanley Cup Ring that Geoff would win during his 17-year NHL career. After leaving the Oilers following the Cup run, this adept winger played briefly for the Capitals and Blues before beginning a 5-year stay with the Vancouver Canucks. Courtnall was a member of the 1994 squad that fell a game short to the Rangers in the 1994 Stanley Cup Finals. Geoff’s last stop was back in St. Louis, where he played the final 5 years of his career and eventually succumbed to post-concussion syndrome. All told Geoff notched 367 goals and 799 regular season points with another 109 playoff points added for good measure. His 1465 PIMs and another 262 PIMS in the playoffs speak volumes about this talented forward who notched a career high in goals with 42 in 1988-89.

The 1997-98 season was Geoff’s last complete year prior to being forced into early retirement due to a concussion that he suffered in November of 1998. In 79 games played, Geoff lit the lamp 31 times and added 94 PIMS for good measure while wearing this jersey. The game wear on this 1st set size 52 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, plenty of un-repaired burn holes, exterior “Starter” pulls, incredible inner pilling and a couple of team-sewn repairs. Affixed to the inside hem is the official St. Louis Blues game worn jersey and set information as well as the BlueNote hologram.
