Description
1997-98 Bill Ranford Washington Capitals Game Worn Jersey - Team Letter
Lot #178
This home white air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Bill Ranford during the 1997-98 NHL season. The Boston Bruins selected Ranford in the 3rd round of the 1985 NHL Entry Draft. After only 2 seasons in Beantown, Billy was dealt to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Andy Moog. Ranford would spend the next 9 seasons playing in Edmonton where he captured his first and only Stanley Cup title in 1989-90. The 1990 Finals saw Ranford square off against his old team, the Boston Bruins and the man he was traded for a couple of seasons earlier, Andy Moog. Billy’s stellar play that postseason earned him the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. In January of 1996, the Oilers traded Ranford back to Boston. Ranford had already appeared in 37 games for Edmonton to that date and proceeded to play 40 more for the Bruins giving him a career high total of 77 games played that year. Ranford wrapped up his career with stints in Washington, Tampa Bay, Detroit and a final stop in Edmonton. All told this All Star goalie played in 15 NHL seasons and won 240 games. Ranford was also the man between the pipes for Team Canada in the 1991 Canada Cup where in 8 games he won 6 and tied 2 of them.

The game wear on this size 60 goalie cut sweater consists of stick and puck marks, goal post paint transfer on both sleeves, crossbar paint transfer on the back, board burns and inner pilling. Affixed to the fight strap is a hologram with a 4-digit serial number. A nicely worn gamer from Billy’s final year in Washington. This jersey will be accompanied by a Capitals team letter. The letter was incorrectly labeled as 1996-97.
