1996 Steve Konowalchuk Team USA World Cup of Hockey Pre-Tournament Game Worn Jersey Team USA Letter
Lot #159

This blue air-knit gamer by Nike was worn by Steve Konowalchuk during the 1996 World Cup of Hockey Pre-Tournament. The Washington Capitals selected Konowalchuk in the 3rd round of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. This Salt Lake City, UT native made his NHL debut in 1991-92 with the Capitals where he spent parts of 13 seasons before wrapping up his 14-year NHL career with the Colorado Avalanche. Konowalchuk represented the United States in several World Championships as well as the 1996 and 2004 World Cups of Hockey. Following his playing days, Konowalchuk coached the Seattle Thunderbirds to a Championship and has worked behind the bench for the Colorado Avalanche and Anaheim Ducks.

Sewn to the left shoulder of this gamer is the 1996 World Cup of Hockey patch. The game wear on this size 56 sweater is on the lighter side as would be expected. On the left breast is a beautiful silver sharpie signature in Konowalchuk’s own hand. On the back player number is a beautiful blue sharpie signature in Konowalchuk’s own hand. Sewn to the inside hem is the official Team USA game worn jersey tagging. Affixed alongside is the official Nike barcode. The 1996 World Cup took the place of the formerly named Canada Cup. The 1996 schedule of games included some of the best international hockey of recent memory. Team USA went on to win the Tournament in a thrilling 3-game Final series against Team Canada. It was Team USA’s first win in the history of the storied tournament. This jersey will be accompanied by a Team USA letter.
