1996 Mike Richter Team USA World Cup of Hockey Game Worn Jersey – “1996 World Cup of Hockey” - 1996 World Cup MVP - NHLPA Letter
Lot #132

This blue air-knit gamer by Nike was worn by Team USA’s Mike Richter during the inaugural 1996 World Cup of Hockey. The New York Rangers selected Richter in the 2nd round of the 1985 NHL Entry Draft. This Abington, PA native played his college hockey at the University of Wisconsin prior to making his NHL debut with the Rangers during the ‘89 playoffs. He would spend all 15-years of his NHL career with New York. During that time, Richter led the Rangers to their first Stanley Cup Championship since 1940 as they defeated the Canucks in 7 games in the 1994 Stanley Cup Finals. Richter ended his career with 301 Wins, a mark only surpassed in Rangers history by Henrik Lundqvist. Mike led the NHL in wins in 1993-94 and played in 3 NHL All Star Games. The Rangers retired his number 35 to the rafters at MSG, never to be worn again. On the international stage, Richter shined brightest as he led Team USA to victory in the 1996 World Cup and was named tournament MVP. He also played in the World Championships, the 1991 Canada Cup and 3 different Olympics and was elected to the US Hockey Hall of Fame in the class of 2008.

Sewn to the left shoulder of this gamer is the 1996 World Cup of Hockey patch. The game wear on this size 56 Goalie cut sweater consists of stick, slash and puck marks, material pulls and inner pilling. Affixed to the inside hem is the official Nike barcode. Richter was simply at his all-time best as he backstopped Team USA to victory during the inaugural 1996 World Cup of Hockey, earning MVP honors in the process. There are now 16 members of the 1996 USA World Cup Team that have been inducted to the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame, many of whom owe a great debt of gratitude to Richter. Accompanying your purchase will be an official 1996 World Cup of Hockey game worn LOA signed by Ted Saskin, Senior Director of the NHLPA. An incredible gamer, packed with rock solid documentation and worn by 1996 World Cup MVP, Mike Richter, choice!
