This gold alternate air-knit gamer by Starter was worn by Rick Tocchet during the 1996-97 NHL season. The Philadelphia Flyers selected Tocchet in the 6th round of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. Tocchet began his NHL career with the Flyers in 1984-85, and as a rookie was treated to a Stanley Cup Finals run where the Flyers fell to the Edmonton Oilers. Two seasons later, Rick would again join his Flyers teammates in another incredible Stanley Cup Finals run that pushed Wayne Gretzky’s Edmonton Oilers to a game 7. Tocchet’s ride in Philadelphia lasted into the 1991-92 season when he was dealt to the Penguins for Mark Recchi.
It proved a fruitful deal for Tocchet as in his first season in Pittsburgh, Rick won his first and only Stanley Cup trophy as he teamed on a fearsome line with Mario Lemieux. Rick’s career lasted 18 seasons that included an 8-year run with the Flyers to begin it and another 3 year run with the same team to complete it. In the middle were notable stays in Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, Washington, Boston and Phoenix. During his career, Tocchet was twice a 40-goal scorer, a career high of 48 coming with the Penguins in 1992-93. His career total of 440 goals and 952 points may surprise some, whereas his 2970 career PIMS should surprise nobody. Tocchet didn’t let up come playoff time either as evidenced by his 471 playoff PIMS in 145 playoff games. Tocchet played in four NHL All Star Games over the course of his career.
The sleeves on this jersey have been custom shortened for Tocchet by the team. Additionally, custom inserts have been added to the wrists and hem of this gamer for Rick. The game wear on this 1st set size 52 sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer and inner pilling. On the inside hem is the official Boston Bruins game worn jersey and set stamp. A nice heavily customized alternate worn by this four-time NHL All Star.
