Description
1996-97 Martin Lapointe Detroit Red Wings Game Worn Jersey - Stanley Cup Season - Photo Match – Team Letter
Lot #169
This road red air-knit gamer by Nike was worn by Martin Lapointe during the 1996-97 Stanley Cup winning season. The Detroit Red Wings selected Lapointe with the 10th overall pick in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. Martin would spend the first 10 years of his 16-year NHL career with the Red Wings, winning 2 Stanley Cups in the process. He finished up his career with stays in Boston, Chicago and Ottawa. All told this feisty winger played in 991 games and compiled 1417 PIMS in the process, including a span of 6 consecutive years with triple digit PIMS totals.

This jersey has been custom shortened in the hem while custom panels have been added to the sleeves for Lapointe by the team. The game wear on this 2nd half size 52 sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, a stitch popped front collar and inner pilling. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Lapointe wearing this exact jersey during the 1996-97 season. On the inside hem is the official Detroit Red Wings game worn jersey and set information. Lapointe rang up 12 points and 60 PIMS in 20 playoff games to help the Wings capture their first Cup of the Yzerman era. Our consignor purchased this jersey directly from the Red Wings following the season. It has remained tucked away in his private collection for the past 20 years and is completely fresh to the hobby! This jersey will be accompanied by a Red Wings team letter.
