1996-97 Joe Sakic Avalanche Game Worn Jersey
Lot #190

This item comes from the personal collection of longtime New England/Hartford/Carolina equipment man Skip Cunningham.

This home white air-knit gamer by Starter was game worn by Joe Sakic during the 1996-97 NHL season. Sakic is compiling staggering career statistics, already which place him among the game’s all-time elite. Joe is flirting with the 600-goal mark and has in excess of 1500 career points, which place him top 10 in the history of the sport. His playoff totals are no less impresssive, having produced better than a point per game while nearing in on the 200 point mark for his career, placing him in rare company.

Joe’s hardware includes the Lester B. Pearson award as the NHL’s outstanding player, the Lady Byng trophy for the combination of sportsmanship and high ability, the Hart Memorial Trophy as league MVP and the Conn Smythe trophy as playoff MVP. He was also the winner of an Olympic Gold Medal in addition to 2 Stanley Cup rings. Spending an entire career as part of one franchise is a rarity in today’s era. Joe has now served the Quebec/Colorado franchise with 18 years of quality service, and is still performing at an elite level of play as is evidenced by his point per game pace this season. This man is already assured of a place among the all-time greats in the Hockey Hall of Fame, all that is left for us to do is watch and enjoy his artistry.

Sewn proudly to the left breast of this gamer is the Captain’s “C”. The manufacturer’s tagging is sewn into the neck while the size tagging remains sewn into the hem. The game use is on the light side but is evident in the form of stick marks and light inner pilling.
