This road blue jersey by Champion was worn by Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon during the 1996-97 NBA season. Olajuwon was the 1st overall pick in the 1984 NBA Entry Draft, the same draft that produced Hall of Famers Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley and John Stockton. Olajuwon was born in Lagos, Nigeria and traveled to the US to play for Guy Lewis at the University of Houston. During his college years, Olajuwon went to the Final Four three times.
Olajuwon is considered one of the greatest centers to ever play the game. He was 6 times named a First Team NBA All Star, 3 times a Second Team NBA All Star, 3 times a Third Team NBA All Star and played in 12 NBA All Star games. He was 9 times named to either the First or Second NBA All Defensive team, led the league in rebounding twice, led the league in blocks three times, was twice the NBA Defensive Player of the Year, won the NBA Most Valuable Player Award, won 2 NBA Championships and was the NBA Finals MVP both times. “The Dream” won an Olympic Gold Medal in 1996 and had his #34 retired to the rafters in Houston never to be worn again. When Hakeem retired he was the NBA’s All Time leader in blocks and is one of only 4 players to record a quadruple-double. He was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008.
This blue Champion jersey has the player name “Olajuwon” on back. On the tail is the Champion manufacturer and size tag. Also on the tail is the 1996-97 year tag as well as the +6 tag. This jersey will be accompanied by a letter signed by Christy Nordstrom, wife of former Rockets equipment manager David Nordstrom.
