This purple air-knit gamer by Bauer was worn by Craig Darby during the 1996-97 AHL season, the inaugural season for the Phantoms. The Montreal Canadiens selected Darby in the 2nd round of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. After playing his college hockey at Providence College, Darby began his NHL career with Montreal in 1994-95. After parts of 2 seasons with both the Canadiens and Islanders, Darby spent parts of 2 years with the Flyers before returning to Montreal where he played for the next 3 years and lastly spent a couple of years wearing the New Jersey Devils team colors.
The Philadelphia Phantoms began play as an AHL franchise in 1996-97 under Hall of Fame Head Coach Bill Barber. They dominated under Barber’s tenure for 4 years with point totals of 111, 106, 105 and 93. They went on to win the league Championship in 1997-98.
The game wear on this size 54 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, gobs of heavy pilling and several team-sewn repairs. A well-worn offering from the franchise’s inaugural season and featuring the desirable purple team colors. This jersey will be accompanied by a Phantoms team letter.
