1996-97 Bernie Nicholls San Jose Sharks Game Worn Jersey - Photo Match
Lot #165

This road teal air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Bernie Nicholls during the 1996-97 NHL season. The Los Angeles Kings selected Nicholls in the 4th round of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. Nicholls made his NHL debut with LA in 1981-82 where he played for the first 9 seasons of his 18-year NHL career. Following his time in LA, Bernie suited up for the Rangers, Oilers, Devils, Blackhawks and Sharks. Nicholls was a 3-time NHL All Star who put forth some incredible statistics during the first half of his career. Bernie’s finest season came in 1988-89 with the Kings as he netted 70 goals and added 80 assists for 150 points! To this day his 70-goal season is one of the best non-Gretzky totals in the sports history. In 1127 games played Nicholls scored 475 goals and added 734 assists for an impressive 1209 points, good for top 50 of all-time.

Removed from the right breast of this gamer is the 1997 San Jose All Star Game patch. Removed from the left breast is the alternate Captain’s “A”. The game wear on this 1st set size 56 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, un-repaired burn holes and trauma, material pulls, stitch pops, washed out bloodstains, fine inner pilling and more than a half dozen team-sewn repairs. Shown above are a couple of beautiful photo matches of Nicholls wearing this exact jersey during the 1996-97 season. A terrific well-worn photo matched offering from this 3-time NHL All Star’s first season with the Sharks and hailing from a set that isn’t often seen in the hobby.
