This white knit gamer by CCM was worn by Jim Carey during the 1995 AHL All Star game at the Civic Center in Providence Rhode Island. The Washington Capitals selected this Dorchester, MA native in the 2nd round of the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. After guarding the pipes at the University of Wisconsin, Carey burst onto the scene in 1994-95 where he split his time between the Portland Pirates and the Washington Capitals in the strike shortened season. That year as a rookie, Carey put forth stellar seasons for both of his clubs. He went on to capture the AHL’s Baz Bastein Memorial Award as well as the Red Garrett Memorial Award. In his first full NHL season, Carey went on to capture the 1996 Vezina Trophy as the leagues top goaltender. As quickly as “Ace” burst onto the scene, it seems he disappeared in the same quick fashion. His NHL career spanned parts of 5 seasons all told.
Sewn to the back hem of this gamer is the 1995 Providence All Star Game patch. Sewn to the right breast is the sponsorship patch. Light use exists and a black sharpie autograph in Carey’s own hand on the verso is worthy of mention. On the inside is the official 1995 AHL All Star game stamp with the accompanying inventory number alongside.
