1995-96 Troy Murray Colorado Avalanche Game Worn Jersey – “1996 Stanley Cup Finals” - Inaugural Season - Last NHL Jersey
Lot #219

This home white air-knit gamer by Starter was worn by Troy Murray during the 1995-96 NHL regular season and playoffs during Colorado’s inaugural year. The Chicago Blackhawks selected Murray in the 3rd round of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. After playing 2 seasons of college hockey for the Fighting Sioux at the University of North Dakota, Murray began his NHL career immediately thereafter and joined the Hawks in time for the 1982 playoffs. Troy spent 10 years wearing the Hawks colors before playing parts of 2 seasons for the Winnipeg Jets. He returned home to Chicago and played parts of 2 more years in the Windy City before a final run that included stays in Ottawa, Pittsburgh and Colorado where he won a Stanley Cup in his final NHL season. Murray was named the 1985-86 Frank J. Selke Trophy recipient as the NHL’s best defensive forward. It was during that season that Murray exploded with 45 goals, 54 assists and 99 points thus earning votes for the Hart Trophy as the NHL’s MVP.

Sewn to the right breast of this gamer is the 1996 Stanley Cup Finals patch. The sleeves on this jersey have been custom shortened for Murray by the team. The game wear on this size 54 sweater is solid and consists of numerous stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired holes, inner pilling and several team-sewn repairs. On the front is a beautiful black sharpie signature in Murray’s own hand. Murray wore this jersey on home ice during both the regular season and playoffs. Colorado finished their magical inaugural season with a sweep of the Florida Panthers in the 1996 Stanley Cup Finals. Troy didn’t officially play in either of Colorado’s two home games during the Finals. This jersey was the last of Murray’s celebrated career. Troy gifted this gamer to a California Sports Museum following his NHL career where it resided until a few years ago. A well-worn customized Stanley Cup Finals patched example representing Murray’s last NHL gamer from the only Stanley Cup winning season of his 15-year NHL career!
