This road orange air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Shjon Podein during the 1995-96 NHL season. The Edmonton Oilers selected Podein in the 8th round of the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. This Rochester, MN native played his college hockey at the University of Minnesota-Duluth before joining the Oilers organization in 1990. Shjon made his NHL debut in 1992-93 and spent a couple of seasons with the Oilers before joining the Philadelphia Flyers in 1994-95. After parts of 5 seasons with the Flyers, Podein became a member of the Colorado Avalanche. Shjon spent parts of 4 years in Colorado and won a Stanley Cup with the team in the spring of 2001. Podein wrapped up his 11 year NHL career with a couple of seasons in St. Louis. This defensive specialist was the recipient of the 2000-01 King Clancy Memorial Trophy for his leadership qualities on the ice and his humanitarian efforts off the ice.
The game wear on this size 54 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, overall trauma, heavy inner pilling and some fantastic team-sewn repair work, more than a handful all told. Podein set career bests with 15 goals and 89 regular season PIMS and then added 50 more playoff PIMS in just 12 post season contests. There’s little doubt how much time Podein spent mucking it up while wearing this sweater during road games in 1995-96.
