1995-96 Sergei Zubov Pittsburgh Penguins Game Worn Jersey Alternate - Photo Match
Lot #122

This black alternate air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Sergei Zubov during the 1995-96 NHL season. The New York Rangers selecteed Zubov in the 5th round of the 1990 NHL Entry Draft. After spending a handful of seasons playing in his native Moscow, Zubov joined the Rangers in 1992-93. In his 2nd NHL season, Sergei played an integral role in helping the Rangers to the 1994 Stanley Cup. Zubov spent three years with New York before playing a lone season with the Pittsburgh Penguins. In 1996-97, he joined the Dallas Stars where he remained for the final 12 years of his NHL career. While with the Stars, Sergei helped the franchise to their first and only Stanley Cup in 1999. This high scoring defenseman scored 771 points in 1068 career games. He recorded a single season best of 89 with the Rangers during their Stanley Cup season of 1993-94. Zubov was a 2-time Stanley Cup Champion, was 3-times an NHL All Star and also has a 2nd Team NHL All Star selection to his credit.

The game wear on this size 54 alternate is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, un-repaired burn holes, stitch pops and inner pilling. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Zubov wearing this exact jersey during the 1995-96 season. The Penguins first broke out their newly designed alternates on January 27, 1996. They continued wearing the new style throughout the remainder of the regular season and playoffs, 14 times in all. Pittsburgh got off to an incredible 11-0 start while wearing their alternates as they made a run to the Eastern Conference Finals, falling just shy of the Stanley Cup Finals. Zubov contributed a robust 81 points in a combined 82 regular season and playoff games. A well-worn photo matched example from Zubov’s only season as a member of the Penguins and the last serious Stanley Cup run by the Penguins during the Lemieux Era.
