Description
1995-96 Ken Belanger New York Islanders Game Worn Jersey Alternate Fisherman Crest - Photo Match
Lot #190

This home white air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Ken Belanger during the 1995-96 NHL season. The Hartford Whalers selected Belanger in the 7th round of the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. Belanger was an enforcer who started his career in 1994-95 with Toronto. He joined the New York Islanders the following season and spent parts of 4 years in New York. During the 1998-99 season, Belanger joined the Boston Bruins where he played for 3 years before wrapping up his career with a 3-year stint in Los Angeles with the Kings. This 6’ 4” enforcer racked up 695 PIMS in 248 games played.

The 1995-96 season saw the Islanders experiment by going to new colors and a Fisherman crest. The game wear on this size 56 sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, un-repaired burn holes, washed out bloodstains, a stitch popped front collar and inner pilling. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Belanger wearing this exact jersey during the 1995-96 season. It was Belanger’s first season with the Islanders and he played in only 7 games the entire year. The Fisherman era lasted merely two seasons on the Island. Now more than 20 years removed from the ice, these short-lived gamers are becoming increasingly more difficult to obtain as collectors realize their value. A beautiful Fisherman crested photo-matched sweater from this enforcer’s first season on the Island.
