1995-96 Denis Savard Chicago Blackhawks Game Worn Jersey All Star Season
Lot #111

This home white air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Denis Savard during the 1995-96 NHL season. The Chicago Blackhawks selected Savard with the 3rd overall pick in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. This Pointe Gatineau native made his NHL debut in 1980-81 with the Blackhawks at just 19 years of age. Savard carved out his legend with Chicago where he showcased his immense talent during 13 of his 17 NHL seasons. Denis spent his first 10 seasons in Chicago before playing for three years in Montreal where, in 1993, he won his only Stanley Cup. Savard next spent parts of two seasons with the expansion Tampa Bay Lightning before returning home to Chicago where he finished his career following two final seasons with the Blackhawks.

Savard, who was known for his patented “spin-o-rama” move, scored 473 goals and added 865 assists for 1338 points to go along with a feisty 1336 PIMS in 1196 games played. His playoff acumen was no less impressive, lighting the lamp 66 times and adding 109 helpers for 175 playoff points to go along with 256 PIMS in 169 games played. Denis is the 3rd highest scorer in Chicago Blackhawks history, trailing only Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita. Denis, a perennial top 10 NHL scorer, was named 2nd team NHL All Star in 1982-83 and played in 7 NHL All Star Games. He was elected to the NHL Hall of Fame with the class of 2000 in his first year of eligibility.

The game wear on this sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer and fine inner pilling. On the verso of the NHL shield in black sharpie is the “96” year designation. On the base of the fight strap also in black sharpie is the notation CHA. Affixed just above is the official Chicago Blackhawks Sports Registry barcode. The nameplate is of the knit variety that may have been replaced at some time by the team, although no outline of a former plate appears obvious. Also worthy of mention is that we have seen other 1990’s era Chicago gamers sold by the Hawks store in the past with a knit plate. Savard scored 48 points and added 102 PIMS in just 69 games of play while wearing this sweater during the 1995-96 season. For his efforts, Denis earned himself his 7th and final NHL All Star Game appearance. A terrific late career offering of this revered Hall of Famer that hails from his final All-Star season.
