After playing his college career at Texas, Malone was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the 2nd round of the 1994 NFL Draft. Malone made the Lions team as a DB for the 1994 season and played his entire four-year NFL career in Detroit, playing in all but one game over his first three seasons. After his playing career was over, Malone joined the coaching ranks where he has been mostly a defensive backs coach for the last 20+ years, currently coaching at Kansas State University.
