Description
1994 Jim Carey Washington Capitals Pre-Season Game Worn Jersey Rookie
Lot #80
This home white air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Jim Carey during the 1994-95 NHL pre-season, his rookie year. The Washington Capitals selected Carey in the 2nd round of the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. After attending the University of Wisconsin, this Dorchester, MA native made his NHL debut with the Caps in 1994-95. Just one season later, “Ace” captured the Vezina Trophy as the NHL’s top goalie as he appeared in 71 regular season games for Washington and posted 9 shutouts. Jim was named 1st Team NHL All Star and served as a backup to Mike Richter in the 1996 World Cup for Team USA. The Caps, who also had Olaf Kolzig on their roster, saw fit to deal Carey who was the main component in the deal that brought Adam Oates, Rick Tocchet and Bill Ranford to Washington. Carey played out the remainder of his career in Boston and during a brief stint with the St. Louis Blues.

The game wear on this size 54 Goalie Cut sweater is solid and consists of stick and puck marks, goal post paint transfer, un-repaired holes, fine pilling both inside and out along with some stains and a fight strap that has lost the battle to salt and rust. Removed from the verso is the nameplate. Removed from the right breast is the NHL’s 100-year Stanley Cup anniversary patch that ties this sweater back to its origins of the 1992-93 season. A nice offering worn by the man who made the hockey world take notice of his brilliant first couple of seasons.
