1994-95 Paul Stewart Referee Game Worn Jersey
Lot #67
This black and white knit jersey by CCM was worn by Paul Stewart during the 1994-95 NHL season. This Massachusetts native played his college hockey at the University of Pennsylvania before making his WHA debut in 1976-77 with the Edmonton Oilers. This tough guy next suited up for the Cincinnati Stingers where he played for two seasons. Stewart then went on to play for the Quebec Nordiques in their inaugural NHL season. During his WHA and NHL career, Stewart played in 86 games and totaled 362 PIMS.

When Paul’s playing days were done, he turned to officiating. He worked his first game as an NHL referee in 1986 and went on to become the first American born referee to officiate 1000 games. Paul is also well known for his courage in defeating Cancer in 1998.

This referee’s sweater was won by our consignor at a charity auction, along with tickets to a Bruins game, a meet and greet in the Referee’s locker room after the game where he was given this jersey and dinner after the game with Paul Stewart in Boston. This jersey is a size 52 and shows light game use. Sewn to the upper verso is the referee’s nameplate, a reminder of the game’s history. A beautifully documented example worn by the first US born referee to officiate 1000-games.
