1994-95 Grant Fuhr Buffalo Sabres Game Worn Jersey - "25-year Anniversary"
Lot #64

This home white knit gamer by CCM was worn by Grant Fuhr during the 1994-95 NHL season. It was with the 8th overall selection in the 1981 NHL Entry Draft that the Edmonton Oilers further cemented their destiny to greatness. Fuhr spent the first 10 years of his 19-year career with the Oilers. During that time he won 5 Stanley Cups and numerous other accolades.

Some of the career highlights include a Vezina Trophy, a Jennings Trophy, a 1st and a 2nd Team NHL All Star selection and 6 NHL All Star game appearances. On the international stage Fuhr represented Team Canada in Rendezvous 87 and 2 Canada Cup’s. His stellar work in the 1987 Canada Cup is still talked about to this day, having played in all 9 games and losing just once. In his final NHL season, Fuhr won his 400th game, becoming only the 6th goalie in NHL history to accomplish that feat.

Grant was one of the most durable goalies in the history of the sport. He holds numerous goaltending records that speak to that fact including most games played in a single season with 79 and most consecutive games played with 76. His record breaking undefeated streak of 23 consecutive games in 1982 still stands to this day as does his 14 assists in 1984. On October 6, 2001, the Edmonton Oilers paid homage to their great netminder by retiring his number 31 to the rafters.

With the 1990-91 season complete, the Edmonton Oilers continued to dismantle their dynasty and sent Fuhr along with fellow Hall of Famer Glenn Anderson to the Toronto Maple Leafs. After a year and a half with the Leafs, Fuhr was sent to the Buffalo Sabres where he tended goal for parts of 3 seasons before spending a partial year in Los Angeles. Fuhr’s next stop was St. Louis where he stayed for 4 seasons before spending one last year in Alberta, this time with the Calgary Flames.

Sewn to the right breast of this gamer is the Buffalo Sabres 25-year anniversary patch. This size 58 goalie cut sweater has been customized for Fuhr with the sleeves having been severely shortened. The game wear on this sweater consists of stick and puck marks, paint transfer and pilling. On the back player number is a silver sharpie signature in Fuhr’s own hand. The picture shown above is of a signing that Fuhr did while applying that very signature. A beautiful sweater from Fuhr’s brief time in Buffalo during the NHL’s strike shortened 1994-95 season.
