1993-94 Pat LaFontaine Buffalo Sabres Game Worn Jersey - Photo Match
Lot #11

This home white knit gamer by CCM was worn by Pat LaFontaine during the 1993-94 NHL season. The New York Islanders selected LaFontaine with the 3rd overall pick in the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. A regrettable string of injuries struck Pat’s career in its prime and ultimately cost him what would surely have been very lofty career totals. This St. Louis, MO native spent 8 years with the Islanders before a trade sent him to Buffalo for the 1991-92 season. He spent 6 seasons with the Sabres and one final year with the New York Rangers before announcing his early retirement due to concussions. LaFontaine had his player number 16 retired to the rafters by the Buffalo Sabres during a 2006 ceremony.

Despite the injury-shortened career, Pat still managed seven 40-goal seasons including two of 50 or more. His 148 points in the 1992-93 campaign was one of the decade’s highest totals and earned him 2nd Team NHL All Star honors as the 1st Team selection went to Mario Lemieux. When injury forced LaFontaine into retirement, he took with him 468 career goals and over 1000 career points. LaFontaine was the 1994-95 winner of the Bill Masterton trophy for the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Pat was a staple in the NHL All Star game during the late 1980’s and early 1990’s as he blossomed into one of the sport’s biggest stars. He also dedicated himself to Team USA and represented them in 2 Olympics, 2 Canada Cups and the inaugural World Cup of Hockey. LaFontaine was one of the classiest players of his generation and was deservingly awarded with an induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Proudly sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the Captain’s “C”. The game wear on this 1st set size 52 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes and fine inner pilling. Shown above are a number of beautiful photo matches of Lafontaine wearing this exact jersey during the 1993-94 season. A spectacular example well-worn by this beloved Hall of Famer, sporting the coveted letter of honor and featuring numerous pinpoint photo matches, choice!
