1993-94 Kevin Stevens Pittsburgh Penguins Game Worn Jersey
Lot #17
This black knit gamer by CCM was worn by Kevin Stevens during the 1993-94 NHL season. The Los Angeles Kings selected Stevens in the 6th round of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. This Brockton, MA native spent four years playing college hockey at Boston College before embarking on an NHL career that began with a 16-game stint in Pittsburgh in 1987-88. Kevin excelled for much of his 8 years in the Steel City, before a head injury altered his career. During the 1993 playoffs, as the Pens were making a run at a 3rd straight Stanley Cup, Stevens suffered a serious head injury that left him and his team never quite the same.

During his time in Pittsburgh, this dynamic power forward had consecutive seasons of 40, 54, 55 and 41 Goals. He rung up lofty points totals of 123 and 111 in his two finest seasons and established himself as one of hockey’s premiere Left Wings. Never one to shy away from confrontation, Stevens tabbed a career high of 254 PIMS for Pittsburgh in 1991-92. His 30 goals and 61 points in 45 playoff games during the Pens back-to-back Cup wins are legendary. During his career, Kevin captured 2 Stanley Cups, played in 3 NHL All Star games and was 3-times a 1st or 2nd Team NHL All Star at Left Wing while at times playing alongside Mario Lemieux.

The mid 90’s began a tough journey for Stevens that took him thru Boston, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia and finally back to Pittsburgh where his career came to an end in 2002. Stevens was a gifted scorer pre-injury and also played with an edge as evidenced by his 1470 PIMS in 874 games, a total that became very tempered post injury.

Proudly sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the alternate Captain’s “A”. The game wear on this size 54 sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, washed out bloodstains and fine inner pilling. Penned in black sharpie on the inside hem is the notation “93-94”. Stevens, in his first season back after suffering severe head trauma the prior postseason was simply terrific, netting 41 goals and adding 47 assists for 88 points to go along with 155 PIMS while wearing this sweater during road games. A beautiful example that sports the coveted letter of honor and was worn by one of the games premiere power forwards of the era.
