1993-94 Greg Smyth Chicago Blackhawks Game Worn Jersey - Turn Back The Clock - Video Match
Lot #345

This barberpole styled, Turn Back The Clock knit gamer by CCM was worn by Greg Smyth during the 1993-94 NHL season. The Philadelphia Flyers selected Smyth in the 2nd round of the 1984 NHL Entry Draft. Smyth would go on to a 10-year NHL career that saw him represent the Flyers, Nordiques, Flames, Panthers, Leafs and Blackhawks. Smyth stood an imposing 6’4” tall and did a valiant job of crease clearing from his position of defense. He also stood up to the best heavyweights of his generation; having averaged nearly 3 ½ PIMS per game throughout his NHL career.

The Blackhawks and Red Wings met at the United Center in Chicago on January 27th, 1994. For the only time that season, each team would wear a throwback styled jersey. These one-game sweaters have proved elusive over the past nearly 2 decades and are highly coveted by a broad spectrum of collectors.

Greg Smyth wore this stunning Turn Back The Clock jersey during that momentous night. The game wear on this size 56 sweater is on the light side as would be expected. A handful of stick marks show up on the white striping of the front side hem. The right sleeve cuff has been torn at the seam. This trauma likely occurred as Smyth stood valiantly toe-to-toe with the league’s perennial heavyweight champ, Bob Probert, for about a minute before succumbing to a vicious knockdown shot. Shown above are video highlights of Smyth as he took on Bob Probert, one of the NHL’s all-time great heavyweights, while wearing this exact jersey on the night of January 27th 1994. A great opportunity for the Chicago Blackhawks collector to fill a hole that still exists in many a prominent Hawks collection, choice!
