The Detroit Red Wings selected McCarty in the 2nd round of the 1992 NHL Entry Draft. He began a 15-year NHL career with the Red Wings in 1993-94. Darren would represent the Motor City for 13 of his 15-years of NHL service during which time he appeared in 5 Stanley Cup Finals and walked away victorious 4 times. Always a willing combatant, this grinder averaged about 2 PIMS per game over the course of his career having accumulated 1477 PIMS in 758 regular season games.
