1992 Sergei Starikov San Diego Gulls Game Worn Jersey
Lot #387

This road black mesh gamer by MSport was worn by Sergei Starikov during the 1992 IHL season. Starikov spent more than a dozen seasons competing in his native Russia before becoming one of the first Russian born players to make the jump to North America and wear an NHL uniform. While in the Soviet Union, this talented rearguard won 9 National Titles as he earned his place on the coveted Central Red Army Team. Sergei competed in numerous World Championships, the 1979 Challenge Cup and in three Olympics spanning 1980-88 during which he won 2 Gold and an infamous Silver at Lake Placid. Famously, Sergei graced the cover of SI along with his friend and Devils teammate Slava Fetisov in 1989.

The game wear on this size 3XL sweater consists of stick marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes and fine inner pilling. Sergei spent the last two years of his playing career with the IHL’s San Diego Gulls while wearing this sweater during road games. The IHL’s San Diego Gulls existed for five seasons spanning 1990-95.
