This red, white and blue goalie mask was worn by Ray Leblanc during pre-olympic action in 1992. All in all Leblanc, an American born in Fitchburg, MA, had a very unspectacular career. He played in only 1 NHL game, playing for the Blackhawks in 1991-92. But for one two-week period in 1992, Leblanc was the talk of the hockey world. Leblanc was the red hot goalie who almost single-handedly got the United States national team into the medal round of the 1992 Olympics in Albertville, France.
For those two weeks in France, LeBlanc played like a star. His goaltending was the biggest reason for Team USA's strongest Olympic showing since it won the gold medal in 1980 in Lake Placid. LeBlanc turned away 281 of 298 shots he faced. He appeared in all eight games for the United States, compiling a record of 5-2-1 with two shutouts. The Americans finished out of the medals, however, as they lost 6-1 to Czechoslovakia in the bronze medal game.
The mask has Team USA on the forhead with the bald eagle in blue on both sides. There is a chip in the paint on the chin. A beautiful Team USA item.
