Description
1992-93 Kjell Samuelsson Pittsburgh Penguins Game Worn Jersey
Lot #146

This home white knit gamer by CCM was worn by Kjell Samuelsson during the 1992-93 NHL season. The New York Rangers selected Samuelsson in the 6th round of the 1984 NHL Entry Draft. This native of Tyngsryd, Sweden began his NHL career with the Rangers in 1985-86. During the following season, Kjell joined the Philadelphia Flyers and journeyed on an improbable run to the Stanley Cup Finals only to fall to the Oilers dynasty. Samuelsson spent 6 years wearing the Flyers orange and black before joining the Pittsburgh Penguins where he won a Stanley Cup in 1991-92. Following 4 years with the Pens, Kjell returned to the Flyers for 3 more years before playing one last season with Tampa in 1998-99. All told, this towering defenseman spent 14 seasons in the NHL where he racked up 1225 PIMS in 813 games played. Kjell won a Stanley Cup in 1992 and earned himself a spot in the 1988 NHL All Star Game.

Sewn to the right breast of this gamer is the NHL’s 100-year Stanley Cup anniversary patch. The game wear on this size 54 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, stitch pops, fine inner pilling and a handful of team-sewn repairs. On the inside collar is a beautiful autograph in Samuelsson’s own hand. A terrific well-worn patched example from a year that the 2-time defending Stanley Cup Champion Penguins dominated the regular season but fell shy in their attempt to attain dynasty status.
