1992-93 Joe Mullen Penguins Game Worn Jersey - Photo Match
Lot #39

This road black knit gamer by CCM was worn by Hall of Famer Joe Mullen during the 1992-93 NHL season. Mullen, who grew up in New York’s tough Hell’s Kitchen, was the first U.S. born player to score 500 NHL goals. He is a member of the 1000-point club as well as the Hockey Hall of Fame. Mullen is a member of the 50-goal club and had numerous seasons that saw him net 40 or more during his storied career.

Joe owns a Lester Patrick trophy for outstanding service to hockey in the United States, (2) Lady Byng trophies for the combination of sportsmanship and high ability as well as (3) Stanley Cups championships, including 2 with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Mullen represented Team USA in 3 different Canada Cup games. Some insist that it was Mullen’s addition to the Pens that helped push them over the Stanley Cup playoff hurdle. There is little doubt that Mullen’s 16 playoff goals played a major part in the 1989 Stanley Cup playoffs as he captured his first Cup as a member of the Calgary Flames.

The game wear on this sweater is solid consisting of numerous stick and slash marks, a multitude of board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, inner pilling and more than a handful of team-sewn repairs. Shown above is a photo match of Mullen wearing this exact jersey in game action. Fabulous looking sweater worn by this Hall of Famer as the Pens attempted a run at their 3rd consecutive Cup.
