1992-93 Jari Kurri Los Angeles Kings Stanley Cup Finals Game Worn Jersey - Photo Match
Lot #12
This home white air-knit gamer by CCM was worn by Jari Kurri during the 1992-93 Stanley Cup Playoffs and Finals. It’s hard to believe that the first-born Hall of Famer from Finland lasted until the 4th round of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. It was in that moment that the Oilers found the perfect compliment to play alongside Wayne Gretzky for the better part of the next decade. Kurri’s Hall of Fame career spanned 17 NHL seasons. The first 10 of those were spent in Edmonton where Jari went to 6 Stanley Cup Finals and walked away with 5 Stanley Cup rings. So great was his legacy in Edmonton, where he is 2nd in all-time points for an Oiler behind only Wayne Gretzky, that his number 17 was retired by the team.

Kurri would eventually follow Gretzky to Los Angeles where the tandem was again found playing for Lord Stanley’s Cup in 1993. Jari spent 5 years in Los Angeles before a deadline deal in 1996 reunited him with former teammate Mark Messier in New York. He went on to finish his career with single seasons in Anaheim and Colorado.

In 1251 career regular season games, Kurri netted 601 goals and added 797 assists for a total of 1398 points. Kurri ranks 3rd on the all-time playoff scoring list with 233 points, trailing only his Edmonton teammates, Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier. Kurri won the 1985 Lady Byng Trophy and was five times a 1st or 2nd Team NHL All Star while also partaking in 8 NHL All Star Games. On the international stage, Kurri played in the 1980 and 1998 Olympics, the 1981, 1987 and 1991 Canada Cups, Rendezvous ’87, numerous World Championships and the 1996 World Cup of Hockey. To say he is revered in his native Finland would be an understatement, as he continues to support the country’s hockey programs to this day.

Sewn to the right breast of this gamer is the 1993 Stanley Cup Finals patch. Sewn beneath is the NHL’s 100-year Stanley Cup anniversary patch. The game wear on this playoff set size 54 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, material pulls, inner pilling and a handful of team-sewn repairs. Shown above are a couple of photo matches of Kurri wearing this exact jersey during the 1993 Stanley Cup Finals at the Forum in LA. Sewn to the inside hem is the official Los Angeles Kings game worn jersey and set patch. Peter Millar, the LA Kings equipment man has also added his initials to the patch. The 1993 playoffs saw Kurri and Gretzky team up together in the Stanley Cup Finals for the last time in their illustrious careers. A tremendous patched and matched offering dating to the 1993 Stanley Cup Finals and worn by this legendary Hall of Famer as he made a run at his 6th Stanley Cup Championship, choice!
