1991 Tony Amonte Team USA World Championships Game Worn Jersey – Rookie – Photo Match
Lot #42

This white mesh gamer by Tackla was worn by Tony Amonte during the 1991 World Championships. The New York Rangers selected Amonte in the 4th round of the 1988 NHL Entry Draft. After playing his college hockey at Boston University, this Hingham, MA native began his NHL career during the 1990-91 playoffs. During his rookie year of 1991-92, Tony netted 35 goals as the Rangers captured the President’s Trophy as the NHL’s best regular season team. His excellent play helped earn him a spot among the league’s all-rookie team. Amonte’s sophomore season saw him light the lamp 33 times and add 43 assists for a 76-point season, paving the way for an All Star career.

Best known as a Blackhawk, Tony had his greatest success wearing the Chief Indian Head crest. He would spend parts of 9 seasons wearing the Chicago colors and produced all three of his 40+ goal seasons during that span. Amonte finished up his career with stints in Phoenix, Philadelphia and Calgary. When Tony’s 15-year career came to a close, he had registered 416 goals and exactly 900 points. Tony played in five consecutive NHL All Star games spanning 1997-2001 and was a key member of Team USA where he played for his country in the 1998 and 2002 Olympics. In addition to the World Championships, Tony was also instrumental in helping Team USA capture the inaugural 1996 World Cup of Hockey, scoring the winning goal late in the 3rd period of the deciding game. Tony also played in the 2004 World Cup and was elected to the US Hockey Hall of Fame with the class of 2009.

Sewn to the shoulders of this gamer are the sponsorship patches. The game wear on this size XXL sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, un-repaired trauma, pilling at the sleeve cuffs and fine inner pilling. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Amonte wearing this exact jersey during the Medal round of the 1991 World Championships in a game against the USSR. An incredible photo matched offering that dates to this US Hockey Hall of Famer’s rookie NHL season.
