Description
1991-93 Dean Grillo University of North Dakota Game Worn Jersey
Lot #296
This home white knit gamer by CCM was last worn during the 1992-93 WCHA season by Dean Grillo. The San Jose Sharks selected Grillo in the 8th round of the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. This Bemidji, MN native spent a season with the Waterloo Blackhawks in the USHL before beginning his collegiate career at UND in 1992-93. After a couple of seasons with the Fighting Sioux, Grillo began his professional career with the IHL’s Kansas City Blades where he played for two years. Dean next spent a year in the AHL with Kentucky before spending a couple of seasons in Europe.

Sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the WCHA patch, marking the first time that such a patch was worn by the Fighting Sioux. The game wear on this sweater is tremendous and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, fine inner pilling and upwards of 70 team-sewn repairs that literally cover massive portions of both sleeves and are also found throughout the trunk of this vintage sweater! The CCM logo has been covered up by a white rectangular shaped patch on the rear hem. Based on the excessive game use and evidence of both a long and short nameplate having been removed from this sweater, it is a virtual certainty that this sweater was first worn during the 1991-92 season and subsequently worn by Grillo during the 1992-93 season, his freshman year. A terrific hammered old-school Fighting Sioux gamer hailing from the first set to feature the WCHA patch!
