1991-92 Patrick Roy Montreal Canadiens Game Worn Jersey - 1st Team NHL All Star - Vezina Trophy - Jennings Trophy - All Star Season - The Chris Chelios Collection Chris Chelios Letter
Lot #6

GAMEWORNAUCTIONS.NET is pleased to present another spectacular item from The Chris Chelios Collection. This exciting game worn jersey came directly from the personal collection of 3-time Norris Trophy winner and Hall of Famer Chris Chelios. Chelios personally obtained this sweater in a swap of game jerseys with friend and former teammate Patrick Roy. A signed letter of provenance from Chris Chelios will accompany your purchase.

This white knit gamer by CCM was worn by Patrick Roy during the 1991-92 NHL season. The Montreal Canadiens selected Roy in the 3rd round of the 1984 NHL Entry Draft. There are many who consider Roy to be the greatest goaltender in the history of the sport. He retired as the NHL’s all-time leader in wins with 551, a longstanding record that was previously held by the legendary Terry Sawchuk and has since been surpassed by Martin Brodeur. Roy is the current record holder with an amazing 151 playoff Wins, more than 50 victories better than Martin Brodeur who resides in 2nd place. To go along with his 4 Stanley Cup rings, he carries 3 Conn Smythe Trophies as most valuable player of the playoffs. The first of those playoff MVP’s came as a rookie in 1986 when Roy led the upstart Canadiens back to Stanley Cup glory. Also to his credit are 3 Vezina Trophies and 5 Jennings Trophies, noting his excellence between the pipes. Patrick was 6 times a 1st or 2nd team NHL All Star while also appearing in double-digit NHL All Star games.

Following parts of 13 seasons tending goal and 2 Stanley Cups for the Montreal Canadiens, Roy was dealt to the expansion Colorado Avalanche where he continued his dominance and led his brethren to another pair of Stanley Cup titles. All told Patrick guarded the pipes over 19 NHL seasons. He went out while he was still one of the games best, posting 30+ Wins and 60+ games in each of his last 11 non-strike shortened seasons. His GAA in his final season was 2.18 while the season prior he posted a career best 1.94. Roy, who excelled during three different decades, will forever be viewed as one of hockey’s all-time greats. Roy entered the Hockey Hall of Fame in the class of 2006.

Sewn to the right breast of this gamer is the NHL’s 75-year anniversary patch. The game wear on this size 54 Goalie cut sweater consists of stick and puck marks, paint transfer and pilling both inside and out. The upper verso is affixed with Roy’s patented stunted nameplate while the fight strap remains sewn to the inside back player numbers. Roy was spectacular during the NHL’s 75th anniversary season. He led the NHL with a 2.36 GAA, a .914 Save Percentage and with 5 Shutouts. For his outstanding efforts, Patrick was named 1st Team NHL All Star; he won the William M. Jennings Trophy and also captured the 3rd and final Vezina Trophy of his illustrious career. Remarkably, Roy was also the runner-up for the 1991-92 Hart Trophy as the NHL’s MVP! Roy and Chelios spent 6 seasons as teammates during their Hall of Fame careers on the Montreal Canadiens. The accompanying letter of provenance signed by Mr. Chelios states that he obtained this jersey from his former teammate in a swap of game jerseys. Offered here is a wonderful opportunity to acquire a gamer from the prime of this Hall of Famer’s career, that was given to Chelios by Roy and which remained in Chris’ personal collection for a quarter century prior to entering our hobby, choice!
