1991-92 Kevin Stevens Pittsburgh Penguins Stanley Cup Trophy - Career Best 123 Points & 254 PIMS Season – Kevin Stevens Letter
Lot #600

This spectacular Stanley Cup Trophy was presented to Kevin Stevens for winning the 1992 Stanley Cup as a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Los Angeles Kings selected Stevens in the 6th round of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. This Brockton, MA native spent 4 years playing his college hockey at Boston College before embarking on an NHL career that began with a 16-game stint in Pittsburgh in 1987-88. Kevin excelled for much of his 8 years in the Steel City, before a head injury altered his career. During the 1993 playoffs, as the Pens were making a run at a 3rd straight Stanley Cup, Stevens suffered a serious head injury that left him and his team never quite the same.

During his time in Pittsburgh, this dynamic power forward had consecutive seasons of 40, 54, 55 and 41 Goals. He rung up lofty points totals of 123 and 111 in his two finest seasons and established himself as one of hockey’s premiere Left Wings. Never one to shy away from confrontation, Stevens tabbed a career high of 254 PIMS for Pittsburgh in 1991-92. His 30 goals and 61 points in 45 playoff games during the Pens back-to-back Cup wins are legendary. During his career, Kevin captured 2 Stanley Cups, played in 3 NHL All Star games and was 3-times a 1st or 2nd Team NHL All Star at Left Wing while at times playing alongside Mario Lemieux.

The 1991-92 season was the finest of Kevin’s career. He netted 54 goals and added 69 assists for 123 points, good for 2nd overall in the NHL scoring race behind only Mario Lemieux and just ahead of Wayne Gretzky who finished 3rd. While compiling incredible scoring totals, Stevens was wreaking havoc on the opposition as he amassed an astounding 254 PIMS. The 1992 playoff run was one for the ages and Stevens partook valiantly with 13 goals, 28 points and 28 PIMS in 21 post-season contests. When all was said and done, Stevens and his teammates hoisted Lord Stanley’s Cup for the final time.

Standing 13” tall, this stunning Stanley Cup Trophy is engraved with “Pittsburgh Penguins 1991-92”. Listed beneath are the players and executives that helped capture the last Stanley Cup of the Mario Lemieux Era, including but not limited to Howard Baldwin, Craig Patrick, Scott Bowman, Bob Johnson, Tom Barrasso, Phil Bourque, Jock Callander, Jay Caufield, Jeff Chychrun, Jeff Daniels, Bob Errey, Ron Francis, Jiri Hrdina, Jaromir Jagr, Grant Jennings, Jamie Leach, Mario Lemieux, Troy Loney, Shawn McEachern, Dave Michayluk, Joe Mullen, Larry Murphy, Mike Neeedham, Jim Paek, Ken Priestlay, Gord Roberts, Ulf Samuelsson, Kjell Samuelsson, Paul Stanton, Peter Taglianetti, Rick Tocchet, Bryan Trottier, Ken Wregget, Wendell Young, Rick Kehoe, Pierre McGuire, Gilles Meloche, Rick Paterson, Barry Smith, Greg Malone, Les Binkley, Charlie Hodge, Ralph Cox and of course Kevin Stevens.

Collectors are abundantly aware of just how difficult it has been to obtain one of these mini gems that were awarded directly to one of the Pittsburgh Penguins players. To the best of our knowledge, this is the only Pittsburgh Penguins Stanley Cup Player’s Trophy from either of the Penguins Stanley Cup teams from the Lemieux Era 1991 & 1992, to ever appear at Major Auction. This exciting example was awarded directly to Kevin Stevens who was the NHL’s 2nd leading scorer in 1991-92. This important example is the first Pittsburgh Penguins players’ Stanley Cup Trophy that we’ve ever had the pleasure to bring to Auction and will be accompanied by a letter signed by Kevin Stevens, choice!
