1991-92 Doug Weight Binghamton Rangers Game Worn Jersey Rookie
Lot #542

This road blue mesh gamer by CCM and Cosby was worn by Doug Weight during the 1991-92 AHL season. The New York Rangers selected Weight in the 2nd round of the 1990 NHL Entry Draft. This Detroit, MI native spent 2 years playing college hockey at Lake Superior State before beginning his career as a member of the Rangers in the 1990-91 playoffs where he played a single game. The following year as a rookie in 1991-92, the Rangers won their 1st ever President’s Trophy, compiling the leagues best overall record. He remained a Ranger for 3 seasons before a deadline deal sent him to the Edmonton Oilers. Weight would spend 9 productive seasons with the Oilers where he established himself among the leagues better playmakers. Doug next moved onto the St. Louis Blues where he played for 6 years before moving to Anaheim. A deadline deal in 2006, which was essentially a loan, proved a good one for Weight and the Carolina Hurricanes who captured the 2006 Stanley Cup, the first for each. Weight spent his last 3 seasons as a member of the New York Islanders where he won the King Clancy Memorial Trophy before announcing his retirement in 2011. To his credit are 4 NHL All Star games, 755 career assists and 1033 career points. He represented Team USA in numerous World Championships, the World Cup of Hockey and the Olympics. Weight is currently serving as the New York Islanders Head Coach. This Stanley Cup winner will be remembered as one of the better playmakers of his generation.

The game wear on this size 52 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, fine inner pilling, a reinforced fight strap and a handful of team-sewn repairs. Also worthy of mention is evidence of a number change. This jersey originally entered the hobby back in 1994 when the club sold their team sets thru a local area non-profit that was fund-raising on behalf of the Binghamton Rangers. Weight played 9 regular season games and 4 more in the playoffs with Binghamton in 1991-92. In those 13 AHL games, Weight scored 4 goals and added 18 assists for an impressive 22 points while wearing this sweater during road contests. A wonderful offering from this 4-time NHL All Star’s rookie season.
